‘Fast and Furious’, the nine films in the series ordered from worst to best
‘Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw’ has already reached theaters with the aim of sweeping at the box office like the rest of the adventures of this universe. Few sagas enjoy such good health being so advanced, but those responsible have come up with the right keys to conquer the public by offering increasingly large follies and good doses of entertainment that in the end is the only thing that many want.
However, here we are not going to talk about box office but about the quality within a franchise started eighteen years ago and that at least it will have two more adventures. Then I have ordered from worse to better the nine films that the saga has today and my reasons for it. Without further adding except remind you that this is my personal opinion, I leave you with the list.
9. ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’
A real disaster that in other cases would have killed the franchise. Look that Vin Diesel still had a lot to polish in the first installment, but his absence shows a lot, since Paul Walker did not have what it takes to hold a more absurd tape, something partly intended to raise the spectacular, but that in relation to history. Although it is hard to believe, everything is simplified to try to reach a wider audience and the result is unsatisfactory on all fronts.
8. ‘The Fast and the Furious’
A covert remake quite mindless of ‘They call it Bodhi’ (‘Point Break’) that has the incentive for some to be the most focused of all the adventures in the motor world. Beyond that, an unfortunate script that Rob Cohen, a lousy director , fails to raise in the slightest and a cast in which even that charisma of Diesel on which he later cemented his career does not even make a true act of presence, although With that it is worth it to be the best of ‘At full throttle’.
7. ‘ The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift’
An unexpected turn with which the saga took some life thanks to the curiosity of the cultural clash between its protagonist and the scene of the story. The best is still the final cameo, but it is true that Justin Lin manages to take advantage of the Japanese capital to give another franchise air and that Lucas Black has more ease than Paul Walker in front, but that does not mean that stupidity ends up weighing more than entertainment, reaching a point where you miss those excesses that would be enhanced in subsequent deliveries.
6. ‘Fast & Furious: Even faster’
An important step forward in the reset of the saga carried out by Chris Morgan and Lin that also has a powerful start marking those excesses that would not stop going further. In it, there are several good ideas scattered in a set that does not finish working, but it was not going to hit the first and is a necessary step to understand the transition that the saga suffered, passing the car races to be an element instead of its main purpose.
5. ‘The Fate of the Furious’
The madness for which the saga bet reaches another level here with the vibrant persecution with a submarine and also gives us several anthological moments like all the ones starring the hilarious duo formed by Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson. However, Diesel’s excessive prominence plays against him, not to mention the ridiculous explanation for his turn to evil or how wasted that Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren are.
4. ‘Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw’
The first spin-off saga is based shamelessly on the charisma of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. There is also good chemistry between them and the film has clear ideas about when to boost the action and when the humor comes to the fore. Interestingly, the best moments are when both coincide as a result of the sympathetic rivalry that arises between the two characters and that reminds in their own way that of Legolas and Gimli in ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
3. ‘Fast and Furious 7’
I expected great things from a movie with Statham as the great villain of the show and the result was a little below expectations. It gives the feeling of an unbalanced film in its attempt to introduce new changes – the mutation in a macarious version of ‘Mission Impossible is completed here – and having to deal with Walker’s tragic death at the same time. There are no very stimulating scenes, but for example, more presence of Johnson or Statham itself is missing.
2. ‘Fast and Furious 5’
For many, the highlight of the saga, the film that best managed to shape all its features to offer great entertainment in which everything fit. In my case I could not thank the arrival to the franchise of The Rock and all the additional energy that introduced his character without the madness taking over everything – and no, I do not forget scenes like the one in the vault – but I must confess that it became a bit long, something especially serious in a title of this nature.
1. ‘Fast and Furious 6’
The excesses take a step forward in the delivery with which Justin Lin wanted to say goodbye for everything great, including one, in every way, incredible final chase at an airport, but also another previous one with a tank. The ideal point of madness -approachable also to reintroduce Michelle Rodriguez in a predictable sub-plot, yes, but effective-, with a solid villain and even emotional scenes that achieved their goal. Can you fault it? Enough, but I had a great time with her and that was what I was looking for.
